Tiger In a Jar

beet cake from tiger in a jar on Vimeo.

The best version of a recipe I have ever seen. By far tops any pretty recipe book or tv series
of home cooking. My head is exploding with creatives ideas lately. It's time to get working people.
Business plans; here I come.

Terms of Endearment.

Boy o Boy, what a gosh darn brilliant film. The little boy saying goodbye to his mamma at the end in the hospital made me cry.. wasn't he a wonderful wee actor in the making?

A series of single meals rounded off with a sound "family" dinner

Despite a photographic series of lovely meals for one, today was such a beautiful summers day (as summery as a summers day in northern England can be) and the whole family so to speak was in the house.
So making the most of it I Baked some haddock, knocked out a pizza and rocket salad and we all sat in the low sun to enjoy. I will only be in this house for another 4 weeks and it is honest to say I will miss these girls a bunch as well as Millie the dog. But I have declared how I shall be visiting oft' to indulge in some 'family' time and to maintain the small front garden.

Life is proving to be very full of unexpected occurrences.. let us hold out for all the good'ns in light
of the bad ones.

Ebert is a sweet sound...

and I have been wearing my hats!
That is all for today other than I going to develop film from my trip to Ireland and Scotland soon, and will get some of those sweet puppies up... that is if any of them turned out as they appeared in my mind's eye.

I have decided to try to be brave and wear my hats more often than not over here in England. For some reason I lost confidence in wearing them since moving here... perhaps as this city doesn't have much of a movement in these quarters, therefore I might look like an attention seeking tit, which is not the case... I just love hats. This is one of my Nana's. Passed on to me in January this year when she died... She was the queen of hats and wore them so well. So I shall try to conjure up some of her hat confidence and sport hers more oft' so that they can live another life, this time on her grand-daughters head.

Are you going to Scarborough Fair?

Esther Rose's 24th. What a grand ol' time. Road trip to Scarborough and a brief stop in rainy Whitby on the way home. I have to say Scarborough is an odd place, very amusing.. and I am not sure I would be able to come away from there and write such a romantic love song.. the place reminded me of what I imagine to be a grungy, tacky, biker version of Miami and a lot cooler in temperature (despite what the bathing beauties must of thought the temperature of the sea to be - but hey, the English make the most of what they've got so I should hold my tongue!!)

After all that though; I'd recommend everyone go to Scarborough Fair.
And finally; Esther Rose is a Hot Chicken and I am so pleased to have such a wonderful friend over here.

Judy and Sully.

A Year Today.

So, it's been a year today that I arrived in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England.
That first day was truly odd, but good. I was very nervous and it was cold and grey. Not like today at all.
Today is sunny and bright and in fact there is not a single cloud to be seen out my window,
well a single-short streak behind what must be a plane is there, but that is all... and of course the big
round sun. Blinding and burning and incessantly there.
It's giving me that bluey-green haze in front of my eyes that you get when there is too much sunlight to take,
(o so poetically) mirroring the 'metaphorical' haze I seem to have been living in since I got here.
You know, it's been a year and I still don't feel quite settled.
Must be a job thing?
I'll get myself sorted though, I will, you just watch me.
In this last year I have been to France, been to Scotland, been back home, been a bridesmaid (or a maid of horror.. honour?), cut my hair, cut my hair again, worked 3 different jobs and a 4th one off weekend job, cried a lot, laughed a lot, walked (an awful awful) lot, made an entirely new life for me in a city where I knew only one person and the haze is still here. Maybe that might suggest that there is a light shining somewhere all the time... or maybe that is just me getting carried away. To be honest, I can be as poetic (as terrible as my poetry can be) as I like to try but I am actually rather bleeding blunt and realistic. So it is likely that I am in a haze for no reason whatsoever that I will ever comprehend, and it'll just end when it decides to do so on it's flipping own.

Wow, the end of that paragraph seems a little morose.
But I am not, honestly :)

Is it okay...

.. If I want to jump a plane to Kangaroo Valley and sunbathe in the mountains for a while with my eyes shut to everything? Just for a little while? Progress can be so slow some times. Oh well, can't fight the man all the time, sometimes you gotta just play by their rules and wait for all the processes and legalities to be complete.

I know the second image doesn't really match my ideas of a place to sunbathe, but it looks like a fun festival all the same.

I miss...

... my Daddy.

...And also home a bit more since visiting in January and since it has almost been a year since I left.
Also, I discovered I have lived in 6 different houses in 5 years and 9 different houses in 10 (thanks to the information needed for yet another silly Criminal Record Bureau check... they do some things in quite a silly manner over in these parts.)

On another note, yes it is Spring over here (apparently). Still cold but I admit that the few cold night frosts and clear, clear, blue sky days we've had are making me believe that perhaps Spring is actually on its way. Yipeee!

Oh and I bought a pair of gardening gloves and a mini trowel today. yuss.
