and on a bit of of blue paper that had been the band
of a small skein of silk
she wrote the lines of the silly little song:
"Wenn ich ein Vöglein wär'
Und auch zwei Flügein hätt'
Flög' ich zu dir--"
That was all she could get on her bit of paleblue paper.

And had two little wings
I'd fly to thee--"
